Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Free, high-quality books for children, from birth up to age 5.

Dolly Parton believes that if you can read, you can do anything, dream anything, and be anything. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library puts books into the hands and hearts of children across the world. The program is a dependable partner for local communities and provides a low-cost, turnkey program to help young children develop a love for books and reading.

The Los Alamos program promotes and supports literacy, family engagement, and learning for the youngest children in our community. By reading regularly with children during their preschool years, they receive the biggest boost they could ever get towards a successful education. Additionally, the program focuses on adult-child engagement, appreciation of art and aesthetics, and connection to the community. JJAB sponsors this program for Los Alamos County.

A child is eligible for the program if they are:

  • A resident of Los Alamos County
  • Newborn up to age 5

Every month the child receives an age appropriate book that is carefully selected, addressed to them, and mailed to their home, regardless of their families income. There is NO COST to the child or family! To register visit www.imaginationlibrary.com

Every registered child receives The Little Engine That Could as their first book. Typically the first book will arrive in the mail within six weeks following registration. After that books will arrive each month and will be based on the child’s age.

This program is provided by generous donations from N3B Los Alamos, Southwest NM Council of Governments, the Emily Bradley Memorial Fund, Los Alamos Public Schools, Los Alamos Medical Center, and individual donors. Click here for additional information on how you can support the program.
